Well Shotty Shot Shot. Look what we have here. Another entry in the blogosphere that is Shot. Its been a while since i last posted something (again) and I’m sure you people were waiting with bated breath for any news on the band that took down a building (true story, I’ll tell you later) but they’re back from the fires of hell and have a couple of more tricks up their collective sleeve to awe and amaze you.
One thing I want to talk about is the arduous task that is getting people to come to a show. As any band would attest, getting people to come to shows is probably the hardest thing a band has to do. Whether it’s a friend or a total stranger, you have to convince them that a) your band doesn’t suck b) the bar or club your playing at sells good drinks for a moderate price c) they’re going to have a good time and d) your band really…doesn’t…suck. I’m sure friends of band members are thinking “well he’s asking fifty other people and they’re probably gonna go, so I don’t have to come to this one. besides they’ll have another show on a day when I’m not doing anything.” First off the problem with that thinking is that the other fifty friends hes asking to go to the show is thinking the same thing. Secondly, your always going to have something to do on a day he’s playing a show which pretty much guarantees you’ll never go to a show.
Now i won’t lie, there are thousands of bands out there and some of them are crappy, but that doesn’t mean you should write off every single band that doesn’t have a record label backing them. how do you think new bands get discovered? if friends never supported the bands that they know, there wouldn’t be any new bands getting signed and going on tour. Besides, when a band you know gets signed and does the tours and starts making the millions of dollars, don’t you want to be the person that’s able to say “i saw them at some shit bar before they were rock stars.” or “I’m really good friends with the guitarist. I can get us backstage passes.” Certain people say that all the time and you know what? Those certain people were the people who made it a point to go to the shit shows before they made it. They supported when no else even knew who they were. How many people can say they saw Guns N Roses, Soundgarden, STP, Rage Against the Machine, etc at a shit bar in bumblefuckville, USA before they became rock stars? Not many, but those people were the most instrumental in getting them to their stardom.
I’m not saying come to every show and be the poster child for whatever band you know, I’m just saying make an effort to come out to a show or two, have a couple of drinks, have a good time, and if the band really does suck and you don’t like them, you can either a)tell them they suck and they need to be better or b)never go to a show again. at the very least you gave them a shot (pun intended) and it was their fault that they didn’t pull you in. And if the band is really good and you dig them, then you can take further steps to promote them and help them get to the next step in becoming rock stars. with Facebook, the blogosphere, eventful.com, you can tell everyone you know that you dig this band and that they should too. And if enough people jump on board, rock stardom is around the corner. All it takes is a few seconds to post it on your facebook account and let everyone know that you support your friends. And in return im sure that friend who’s in a band you supported will come out and support you in whatever career you have.
well that does it for today. Shot in Blogosphere will be updated regularly (i promise this time) so keep checking back in. And don’t be afraid to comment and share this with someone. You never know when Rock Stardom could be knocking on the door.
